Director of Communications Emily Clark visited Mrs. Woods’ second-grade classroom on Friday as a special guest reader, bringing with her a story inspired by two famous bald eagles she enjoys watching on a YouTube livestream—Jackie and Shadow.

After searching for a book that captured their quirky antics and coming up empty, she decided to write her own titled "Jackie, Shadow, and the Not-So-Perfect Nest." The story highlighted Shadow’s attempts to improve their nest, complete with stick deliveries that don’t always go as planned.

Students followed along with the livestream of the eagles and asked questions about the pair. Students enjoyed the visit so much that during recess, they built their own nests with Lincoln Logs and created drawings of Jackie and Shadow.

I think it’s safe to say Jackie and Shadow have a few more fans after this visit! To watch the livestream of Jackie and Shadow, visit https://www.youtube.com/live/B4-L2nfGcuE?si=-pLbtIOI_9z6y9Gi.

Miss Marshall’s art students have spent the past month exploring Earth Day and brainstorming ways to protect our planet. After identifying issues like pollution and waste, students set out to engineer their own solutions.

Starting with rough sketches and moving into 3D construction using recycled materials, the children combined imagination with ’a touch of magic’ to bring their inventions to life. A major focus was placed on symbolism, challenging students to create visual cues that represent their invention’s purpose.

To wrap up the project, students pitched their visionary designs to a very ‘tough’ investor—a stuffed animal dog—and shared their hard work and environmental passion with their peers.

Our America 250 Extravaganza was a tremendous success, a fun-filled evening of learning, celebration, and community. Guests enjoyed free pizza, explored hands-on craft stations, and had the chance to win door prizes. Many tried their luck with the estimation jars, and our Musical Mustangs delivered a wonderful performance.

Each student received a free book to take home, and every guest left with a mini American flag as a keepsake. Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating America 250 and helping make the event such a memorable experience.
