Students in Mrs. Link’s classroom recently took part in a hands-on lesson about germs and the importance of proper handwashing. To put their skills to the test, students had their hands dusted with glow powder before washing up. Using black lights, they discovered just how many “germs” can remain behind even when we think our hands are clean.
The activity also demonstrated how easily these invisible particles transfer to other surfaces, such as computer mice, door handles, and even a soda can. This eye-opening experiment gave students a clear reminder of why thorough handwashing matters.

Students in Mr. Greenlee’s Physics class recently put their problem-solving skills to the test with a hands-on experiment in our new STEM lab. After constructing their own paper box containers, they measured out a mystery powder, added boiling water, and stirred until it dissolved completely. The mixture was then poured into their paper containers to cool, requiring patience and precision to keep the liquid from soaking through. The surprise reveal—the mystery concoction was actually Jell-O!
Meanwhile, Mrs. McDowell’s Physical Science students used the STEM lab to explore measurement and observation through their own project. By recording volume, mass, and other data, they investigated the properties of different materials and learned how accurate measurements are important in understanding physical science concepts.
